Putting in the Groundwork
10 December 2006
Putting in the Groundwork Biological Services staff have been busy over the build up to the festive period. A series of courses in Christmas crafts using natural materials have been delivered for Groundwork South Tyneside and South Tyneside Council. Mothers and children made Willow festive rings, Father Christmas faces, stars and Christmas trees over three weeks at Chuter Ede Community Centre, South Shields. Low Simonside Community Centre is the venue for a four week course in "Getting Crafty with Nature" a Family Learning activity funded by the Learning and Skills Council. Willow insects, magic wands and fairy wings joined the traditional festive favourites being made by the residents of Low Simonside. A craft club has been formed and initial activities are being facilitated by Biological Services. Essential tools and jigs, along with materials have been provided at cost and a host of inspirational ideas have been passed from Helen to the members of this group.
