These male Brown Crab with their huge claws were a spectacular part of the biodiversity analysis that we recently carried out at the entrance to Crinan Harbour in Scotland during February.  Work was intense in snow and strong winds but vital evidence has been gathered to enable us to assess biodiversity change in coming seasons and years.

One focus of the work scheduled for later in the year is to examine how current catching methods skew population distributions in age, space and time.  Sounds like a title for a science fiction film doesn't it, but it's not.  We are after science fact and are working hard to provide essential data for governments and companies.
