NB - this website has been archived since 2014 as the British Council no longer funds Connecting Classrooms links with Jamaica.

The website was created to help provide updated information and contact details about the Birmingham Jamaica Special Schools Link Programme.

The idea for the Birmingham Jamaica Special Schools Link Project came during visits in 2011 and 2012 of Jamaican Education Officers, Principals and teachers to Birmingham to explore school link opportunities. Graham Hardy, Head Teacher of Calthorpe Special School and Rhys Hancock, Deputy Head arranged to visit Jamaica along with Liz Millman from the charity Jamaica 2000, and Birmingham based Jamaican poet Spicy Fingers.

We were given a very warm welcome with meetings to explore possibilities, as well as opportunities to visit several Special Schools, and the Calthorpe / Woodlawn Partnership Link was formally recognised.

At this time we want to wish Miss June Hamilton, who has led the Special Education Unit for a number of years, very best wishes during her pre-retirement leave and thank her for supporting the ideas to establish formal links between Jamaican Special Schools and Special Schools in Birmingham.
