Bedwas Workmens Hall - your legacy
Bedwas Workmen’s Hall was built in 1923. Every local miner contributed from their hard earned wages to fund the building of a community hall where people could go to relax and enjoy a social evening together.
It was money that they could have probably found other ways to spend, as times were hard, and yet these colliers after facing danger, long hours and dreadful conditions, thought of their locality and the community they lived in.
How many of us living in Bedwas Trethomas... and Machen (and even a little further) can say that their father, grandfather, or even great grandfather worked in Bedwas colliery.
Is Bedwas Workmen’s Hall your legacy? Why not come down and look at what the men who worked in Bedwas Pit, did for us nearly 100 years ago.
The hall gave them a pleasure by providing an outlook away from the pit. Not many pits around now, but our hall is, and we are thriving.
In a few years time we will be celebrating our centenary. Be part of this celebration, if you have any memories about the hall contact us because we want to hear about them. But you needn’t wait until then, we have a lot of interesting events going on and we want you to be part of them also.
You can find out what’s going on by becoming a member of the facebook page or logging onto the website regularly.
We are also posting out leaflets with information about forthcoming events so watch out for these and keep it handy to make sure you don’t miss out.
Unfortunately, the hall is still struggling to get access for disabled people. The volunteers are working hard to try and push the lift fund up. They work behind the bar during public events and all profits are going into that lift fund. We also have a just giving page, which you can access via the web page or by clicking on the link below. If the miners were still here, the probability is they would have rallied around and all contributed something to get it all sorted.
How much could we raise if each member of the community would give just £1.

Wanted - Your Memories
To celebrate and mark the occasion of the halls centenary, we are trying to put together a book which gives a history of the hall with an input off anyone who has a memory special to them about the hall.
This could be the first time you ever went to the hall, or maybe of a special occasion in which you attended the hall to celebrate.
Perhaps you have some photographs which could be used.
Whatever you feel is of interest be it a memory, special event held or attended, or photographs we want to hear from you.
