Once again our club has gone from strength to strength with Sundays ‘event being well attended by both performers as well as listeners/visitors ‘and supporters.

We had to start a wee bit later than normal due to another event being run in the building, however what was good with having a delay  – a number of different band members  - singer songwriters got together and just talked about music and it has become  obvious that folks are liking what we are doing at ATOMIC.

Where else can we have children sitting and watch their family members playing a gig in nice surroundings and get a free bit of pizza as well. (and how come they always take the pizza out when I am on stage so there is none left by the time I finish my set – note to committee ) Where else can you hear new original songs of all genre being sung – live on stage - next to a rendition via backing track of via  la lasagne. ( a song especially written for Davie P – ha ha)

CADILLAC

The day started off as it usually does with Cadillac – the unofficial club band – leading the way.  Their jaunty country rock set got proceedings going with a number of well know country hits done in the special Cadillac style.  The rhythm section of John and Gerry seemed especially tight today and the harmonies between Dave and Sandy were – harmonious. Cadillac finished their set with a real rock classic being countrified “squeeze box” originally written and performed by the Who. This track has become a corner stone of the Cadillac set. For a change they decided to play it a little slower than they normally do.  During the set the boys were once again joined on stage by Arlene, dressed for the part and sounding good alongside the country boys fae Aberdein, apart from Gerry who is from Newcastle and John who is from ... oh you get the idea!!

HYTCH A RIDE

This was the first visit to Atomic by Hytch A Ride to play their unique style of original rock music.  June (singer song writer fronts person) visited us last month and was keen to return to do a set. We all thought she was going to play solo as a singer song writer, but along she came with her band.  A very energetic set where June tried to get the audience involved, perhaps there will be more chance of success at the Christmas function, once a few beers have gone over. HAR already have picked up a following and we hope the visit to Atomic helps with their development and we will welcome HYTCH A RIDE  back to Atomics December meeting – remember June you have to SING A CHRISTMAS SONG as part of the deal.  Novel approach as June really got into the role of a rock star chick and even did the introduction of the band routine at the end  of the set – nice touch.

DAVE BREMNER AND FRIENDS

Dave (nae bandmates) Bremner was up to be on his own “again” sang one very  self penned country song (worryingly) and then was joined on stage by the normal motley crew of Dave – Graham – Gerry and Darren. Good little set, but as Cadillac over run by 3 songs and Arlene was wanting to do a few more numbers, Dave kindly, for the 3rd month in a row, decided to cut back on his set to allow others the benefit of the atomic stage time. A mixture of self compositions and covers went down well , especially considering Dave forgot the words of horse with no name and couldn’t read the pages as he forgot his glasses.  (age doesn’t come its self) the guys  managed to cover it well though and had a good laugh. Dave has promised from now on every set he does at Atomic will have at least one Marc Bolan number – his hero.  This set had two Life’s a Gas and Twenty Century Baby, once again Graham and Darren add a lot to these numbers.

Set finished with Dave singing his newly recorded self penned song REASON TO LIVE  to the backing track that was produced by Niall during the recording session at the MILL RECORDING STUDIO  just outside Banchory.. A life time ambition fulfilled

ARLENE

Back on stage but this time without the support of Cadillac, played a couple of songs with an excellent but rather shy looking acoustic guitar player – sorry Arlene never thought to introduce him to us so we will have to just call him the phantom 6 stringer. Arlene seemed to enjoy her set as we all did, as Arlene grows in confidence then we are sure we will see more of her at the Atomic meetings. Finished on an all time drunken time classic that Dave B mistakenly called via la lasagne, so that will stick for now. Dave B often gtes his words mxide up

Well done Arlene it took bottle to sing your “cheesey” song (her words not ours) and you cant have lasagne without cheese can you!!

HALF CUT GROOVES

These guys had waited around a long time but Alan the guitar man said it was a good experience and was pleased that a few of the friends of the band came along to support their first real gig. Another new band to add to the ATOMIC role of honour and what a great set. Tight rocky blues sound from the four piece band – good to see a front man live the part and when required pick up a guitar and add to the overall sound. These guys took a crowd with them on Sunday and it was great to see youngster being able to sit down and watch them perform. Guitar solos were interesting and not overly stretched out so the interest was kept high to see what sounds Alan could produce with his array of pedals.

Great set and we are looking forward to their return to play a more rounded set.

Next time we will endeavour to get the set lists from all those playing before hand so we can write a better and fuller review.

Thanks to all that attended
