CROMARTY HOMES & HERITAGE - EXHIBITION

In spite of the changes, much remains the same.  There’s a constancy about the sea itself.  When you live by the sea, some things never change.

RoCAS have concluded the Cromarty Homes and Heritage Project with an exhibition in the Victoria Hall, Cromarty.  Facilitating the local community to record the town's memories of places, people and events, RoCAS spent six months gathering information on a range of subjects focused around seven Cromarty themes: Homes, Social Places, Working Life, Harbour and Fishing, Cromarty at War, Church Life and School days.  In addition to the seven "Memories' sessions, the project included a tour of the wartime buildings on the South Sutor by Allan Kilpatrick of RCAHMS, a guided tour of the Courthouse Museum's collections and a workshop on the RCAHMS Britain From Above collection by Brian Wilkinson and a research workshop using online resources.

The exhibition put on display photographs-old and new, newspaper articles, old maps, research and memories - using material gathered during the project and from the Cromarty Image Library.   Other contributions came from folks world-wide with roots in Cromarty.  The exhibit is intended to go on display again in the Cromarty Courthouse Museum in 2014.

Mary Peteranna (RoCAS) commented, "we have truly enjoyed working with people of all ages in Cromarty during the Homes & Heritage project.  There are some wonderful characters and places in Cromarty and it's been a real pleasure to get to know them- some just from the memories of others.  It's been amazing the amount of people the project has reached, particularly using Facebook to reach out to the community."

Locals tour the exhibition at the opening event on October 4th 2013
