AHSFP's 2 Caird Park 1

Ahsfp's entertained second division leaders Caird Park last Saturday in the third round of the Bremner Cup. Having defeated Premier Division outfit Bank Street Athletic in the previous round the Fp's were keen to continue their run in this prestigous cup. The prize for the winners of this match was a quarter final against the Midlands top team Riverside Athletic.

Manager Smith was forced to make two changes from the previous weeks victorious team. Dave Brown and John Humphreys were both unavailable for the game so Richie Fenwick and Gordon Smith replaced them in the Fp's defence. Offshore workers Matty Gall and Jamie Macintosh returned and both were recalled to the first team bench.

In perfect football conditions 'Park got the game underway. It was the homeside though that were quickest off the mark and opened the scoring within the first two minutes. Mike Gall was fouled on the left wing and from the resultant free kick, D.Smith swung in an inviting cross which centre half FENWICK headed home for his seventh goal of the season.

The hosts didn't sit on their goal advantage and went about looking for another. D.Smith sent Ferrier down the left wing but his cross eluded striker Sharp in the box. From another great move down the left the Fp's doubled their lead. This time Ferrier sent Sharp down the wing and his perfect cross was met on the run by the onrushing LEES who found the net for his third goal in three games.

'Park tried to get into the game but found the back three of Riddell, G.Smith and Fenwick in uncompromising form. Their only real chance of the first half came from a direct free kick which was struck high of Saundersons crossbar. Fp's passed up on a great chance to kill the game off before half time when Dalls measured ball sent Ferrier one on one with the keeper. The winger though opted to pass rather than shoot and the opportunity was lost.

Half Time:AHSFP's 2 Caird Park 0

Fp's kicked off the second half looking to put the game out of reach. But it was 'Park who pressed the homesters back into their own half. The Dundee side were showing good composure and had plenty of possession but the Fp's defence stood firm. As manager Smiths passing ability desserted him he substituted himself on the hour mark and on came Matty Gall in his place.

The towering strikers impact was immediate. Firstly Kidd picked him out unmarked in the box but he screwed his shot wide. Then Dall played him through on goal and as he bore down on the keeper at a tight angle he opted to shoot instead of squaring to Sharp who would've had an open goal. His weak shot was easily saved by the keeper.

The game became more open with 'Park trying to get back in the game and the Fp's looking dangerous on the break. It was the Fp's though who were made to rue their missed chances as 'Park finally breached the home rearguard with a scrappy goal.

In a bid to freshen up Fp's replaced Mike Gall with Macintosh. With the game now in ebb and flow Kidd sent Ferrier through on goal but again he tried to pass when the shot was on and the pass was intercepted. G.Smith then played Lees down right wing and his cros found Sharp at the back post but with the goal gaping the referee blew for offside against the striker.

'Park continued to threaten deep into injury time with several corners but in a superb team effort the Ahsfp's held out to progress into the next round for another crack at big guns Riverside Athletic.

For the second week in a row the man of the match award was shared. It went to wing backs Kidd and Ferrier who both worked exceptionally hard up and down their respective flanks.
