Midlands Division One

Harris FP  3   V Arbroath High School FP 1  Eton street, Dundee   Saturday 23rd Januray 2010

The FPs eventually got a game to play after being out of action for over a month, but they appeared to have a hangover from the New Year as they went down to bottom club Harris. The FPs started at a very pedestrian pace. The passing was woeful from the FPs,  and despite youngster Buick trying to make an impression in the game he had a distinct lack of support at times. Ferrier and Sharp were both singled out for some wild challenges but the referee was happy to let play go on. To be fair to the referee, he was equally blind to some high FPs tackles and the game was not one for the purists. The FPs had a solid claim for a penalty as Ferrier was pole axed inside the Harris penalty area, with the referee was only a few yards away, and stunned both teams by booking Ferrier for diving. Harris looked sharp on the break and the FPs were left looking at each other as the home team made it 1-0 after a series of blunders enabled their forward to score easily. Saunderson and Lawson were playing to a decent standard but their team mates were putting in plenty of effort without any results.
The half ended without further scoring.

half-time - Harris FP 1   v  AHSFP 0

The FPs kicked off down the notorious slope and at last strung some passes together, and looked a far more competent outfit. The FPs created a few decent chances and had a succession of corners which were scrambled clear as Harris defended desperately. The FPs were caught out on the counter attack but Saunderson made a great save to prevent Harris from scoring. The FPs continued to push forward , from another corner Ferrier was flattened by the Harris keeper, and the winger had to be carried off to be replaced by Kidd and Mclaren replaced Buick who had given his all. . Kidd and Mclaren  looked very sharp and  both made an immediate impression. Kidd taking on the Harris defence and Mclaren tackling strongly, and passing accurately. It seemed odds on the FPs would get an equaliser and after a fine cross from Lawson was met by Gall at the far post with the keeper stranded, Gall headed home the cross for a fine goal, however, the referee chalked it off for a push on a defender which was tenious to say the least. With the FPs reeling from this decision Harris doubled their lead with a decent finish to some good passing from them. The FPs battled on and after some sustained attacking, a Gall cross was volleyed home by KIDD for a brilliantly taken goal, to make it 2-1. Harris dug in and the FPs could not find the equaliser but conceded a very unlucky goal after a Harris forwards shot fell kindly to an unmarked team mate, who fired home to make it 3-1. Wilson then replaced McIntosh for the remaining fifteen minutes but the FPs could not add to the scoring, with Harris ending up worthy winners. The FPs had too many players off form and although they had a few bad decisions made against them by the referee, it would be churlish to use that as an excuse for this defeat.

Fina score : Harris FP  3   v   AHSFP 1

The FP's man of the match was Lawson, who gave his all over the 90 minutes and his never-say-die attitude is one the FPs need more of, with Saunderson and the substitutes Kidd and Mclaren showing the form that will win games for the team.
