AHSFP 2      v  CDC AFC (Cumbernauld) 1               Saturday 07/11/09 Scottish Cup 3rd Round  - Friockheim Park, Friockheim

AHSFP had to relocate this game to Friockheim due to Hercules Den being water logged. Manager Smith made a two changes to the line up from the previous week , with Brown and Kidd starting and Ferrier and Wilson on the bench. The FPs made a tentative start to the game and the visiting team had an early chance which they snatched at.The FPs defence looked unsettled and with only Dall in the mdfield finding a team mate with a pass, the FPs continually gave the ball away. It came as no surprise when CDC too the lead, after some fine build up play the visitors winger curved a brilliant effort into the top corner from twenty five yards out The FPs responded immediately and Kidd released Gall who turned provider, his inch perfect cross met by Sharp, whose effort just missed the goals. The game opened up and after a mix up , Riddell headed the ball over the advancing keeper Saunderson to score what looked a certain own goal, but the defender made amends by hooking the ball from under his own crossbar to safety. CDC were then thwarted by Saunderson who made a great save when one-on-one with the CDC forward, to keep the score at 1-0 , and the half ended with no further scoring.

half-time :- AHSFP 0 v CDC AFC 1

Manager Smith made two changes at half-time, with Ferrier and Wilson, replacing Michael Gall and Brown, who hadn't played any worse than any of their colleagues as Smith attempted to re-arrange the FPs formation. Sharp moved up front with Matty Gall, and Ferrier took Sharps position on the left wing. Ferrier immediately made an impact and looked like a man on a mission. CDC were very much on the back foot as the FPs searched for an equaliser. A succession of corners presented the FPs with some great chances, with Humphreys the biggest sonner  missing with a header when he seemed certain to score. The FPs could not find the killer touch and after a Ferrier cutback found Smith on the edge of the box, but he elected not to shoot with his left foot and the pressure eased a little on the visitors. With ten minutes to go the game threatened to boil over after a challenge from Gall left the CDC keeper prone on the park. The FPs anticipated that CDC would put the ball out of play and despite pointing out to the opposition players and the referee, CDC  elected to play on, much to the fury of the FPs and it was fortunate that CDC missed the target with their effort. The FPs sportingly put the ball out of play to permit the CDC keeper to get attention but it was an incident that could easily have backfired. During the visiting keepres lengthy treatment, the FPs substituted Riddell with Mclaren as they searched for an equaliser. With seven minutes remaining the FPs equalised after Sharp jinked his way down the left wing and his cutback presented GALL with an open goal which he side footed the ball into, to make it 1-1. The FPs were looking strong and CDC were defending en masse, and a replay was looking on the cards. The referee had added on additional six minutes due to the time wasted in CDC substituting their goalkeeper, and after another FPs attack, Ferrier found himself about to shoot from ten yards out when he has fouled, and the referee had no option but to award a penalty. McLAREN showed great composure to rifle the penalty home, to make it 2-1, and the referee's whistle signalled time up after the restart, and the FPs now go into the 4th round draw.

The FPs showed some real character in the second half, after a first half in which they had too many misplaced passes.
