AHSFP'S 5 Dundee Medical Students 1

AHSFP's welcomed Dundee Medical Students to Hercules Den last Saturday in the 2nd round of the North of Tay Cup. 'Fp's were looking to quickly get over the previous weeks disappointment when they were defeated 2-1 in the Tay Valley Shield final by SS Peter and Paul. Apart from offshore workers Macintosh and G.Smith, manager Smith had a full fit squad to pick from. Two changes were made from the cup final starting eleven. To freshen up, Sharp and Dall came in for Kidd and G.Smith respectively.

'Fp's started the match very lively and considering the under foot conditions due to the heavy rain, were playing some attractive football. Wingers Ferrier and Sharp were recieving a lot of service from Smith and Dall and they in turn were linking well with the two Gall cousins up front. Although the team were struggling a bit to find the killer touch it was only a matter of patience.

'Fp's first goal was a result of some intense pressure on the visitors defence. Mike Gall picked up a loose ball and poked through to NORMAN SHARP who brilliantly turned his marker before cooly slotting home under the diving 'keeper.

Only a few minutes later Fp's doubled their lead. A long throw into the box by Dall was headed upwards by KEITH FENWICK and then headed past the keeper by the same player. Again the homesters pressed and quickly added a third. A good move down the right involving Ferrier, Smith and Mike Gall resulted in the latter blasting a shot which came back off the post and NORMAN SHARP was on hand to tap in the rebound for his second of the game.

Just when it looked like the flood gates had opened 'Fp's took their foot off the gas. The energetic Students began to edge their way into the game with a few dangerous counter attacks. They deservedly pulled a goal back when Riddell was caught trying to dribble out of defence, the 'Student winger then picked out his forward and when his marker Humphreys lost his footing the striker had the simple task of side footing past Saunderson.

'Fp's were quickly losing their shape and the Students could've reduced the deficet to one. With the 'Fp's defence in disaray a Student forward found himself one on one with Saunderson but the ever reliable keeper brilliantly saved to keep the score at 3-1 going into the interval.

Half time:AHSFP's 3 Dundee Medical Students 1

With some stern words and opinions thrown around at half time due to the last 15 minutes of the first half, 'Fp's came out in a very determined fashion. With the pitch worsening good football was not easy to achieve. But the homesters continued to make the best of a difficult situation and were rewarded on the hour mark with another well worked goal. Ferrier surged forward and played the ball wide to Smith who's cross was met on the volley by NORMAN SHARP, leaving the keeper no chance and to complete his hat-trick.

The struggling Humphreys was then replaced by youngster and debutant Aaron Buick. The tiring Ferrier was also replaced by Kidd. Kidds impact was almost immediate. With his first involvement he dribbled past a few defenders into the box but on his weaker foot the keeper easily saved his tame shot.

Buick himself was seeing plenty of the ball and one inparticular cross found Mike Gall unmarked in the box but his header flashed wide. 'Fp's ended the scoring with quarter of an hour remaining. Smiths throw into the box found MATTY GALL and he turned his marker and fired low into the net for 'Fp's fifth and the towering strikers 16th of the season.

Although Sharp netted his second hat-trick of the season the man of the match award went to Keith Fenwick for an all round impressive display in 'Fp's back four.
