AHSFP's 4 Kelso 1
07 October 2009

AHSFP 4   v Kelso AFC 1  Saturday 3rd October 2009, Hercules Den 2 pm KO

The FPs shuffled their line up, and welcomed Kevin Dall back to the club, who joined Gordon Smith in central midfield. The overhead conditions did not prevent the FPs from starting the game strongly, and with Ferrier on one wing and Cowan on the other, they were looking to get the ball wide. The FPs had Kelso hemmed in for the first fifteen minutes, but couldn't find the finishing touch, but it was the visitors who took the lead with their first attack, which was expertly headed into the top corner to make it 1-0 to Kelso. The FPs didn't take long to get an equaliser, with the menacing Gall cousins linking up, with Michael GALL finishing off a fine move. The FPs defence was solid , and Ferrier was the victim of some heavy challenges as he ran the Kelso defence ragged. Dall then rattled the crossbar from a direct free kick and the FPs eventually took the lead, when a fine cross from Matthew Gall was headed home by FENWICK to make it 2-1 to the homesters. Kelso defended in depth and the FPs controlled the remained of the half without adding to the goal tall.y

half-time -  AHSFP 2  v  Kelso AFC 1

The FPs started the second half in a similar fashion to the first, with the referee showing a Kelso midfielder a yellow card for another high tackle on Ferrier. With G.Smith and Dall winning the midfield battle, any attacks which did breach these two were easily mopped up by the back four who looked sharp. The FPs got the next goal by the talismanic Matthew GALL, who is in fine run of goal scoring , to make it 3-1. Kelso seemed to settle for damage limitation and Saunderson had one vital save to make as the FPs sought to add to their lead. With Kidd, D.Smith and youngster Burness replacing Cowan, Matthew Gall and Wilson respectively, the FPs got a fourth goal when the mercurial FERRIER beat three defenders on mazy run and fired the ball high into the net to make it 4-1, and cap a fine individual display from the winger. The FPs deserved the win and didn't let the elements prevent them from passing the ball. This was a fine team performance against a stuffy opponent who don't give an inch, and the FPs attitude and team work was excellent.
