Kelso 1 AHSFP's 1
25 August 2009

Fp's travelled to Dundee to play Kelso in their third fixture of the Tay Valley Shield. Having eased to victory in their previous 2 games and Kelso struggling in their last 2, Fp's were heavy favourites to pick up all 3 points. The only change to Fp's starting line-up was youngster Darren Wilson who replaced the unavailable Macintosh at full back.

Kelso kicked off and in the early stages looked the hungrier team. Fp's appeared sluggish compared to previous performances and a pumped up Kelso side looked to take advantage. The homesters were first and second to most balls and Fp's struggled to find their rythme.

But Kelso's lack of fire power prevented them from creating any opportunities and it was the Fp's against the run of play who created the best chances. Gall and Sharp were both put through on goal but couldn't convert their left foot chances. Gall then picked Sharp out with a pin point cross but the latters header struck the crossbar from close range.

These missed chances proved costly as Kelso took the lead before half time. Riddell clumsly fouled on the edge of the area and whilst Brown was organising his wall a Kelso midfielder struck the quick free-kick into the top corner.

After a half time roasting Fp's came out in a more determined fashion pressing Kelso into their penalty box. Fp's soon equalised with a well worked goal. Smith sprayed the ball wide to Ferrier. He ghosted past his marker and fired in a dangerous cross which was helped on by Sharp into the path of GALL who blasted home from six yards.

Although Fp's never came out of second gear they still looked the more likely to score and but for some outrageous offside decisions by the official would have gone on to score more goals. Fp's knew it wouldn't be their day when a Kelso defender kicked the ball off his own players head straight into the path of Gall and the referee stopped play for a head knock just as he was going to pull the trigger. Needless to say the so called head injury lasted 5 seconds!

With luck not on their side Fp's could've lost the game but for some excellent defending. Humphreys and Cowie both had to make well timed last ditch tackles and the one time they didn't make it Brown came up with goods in the Fp's goal.

The man of the match award went to John Cowie for yet another consistant performance at full back.

Fp's now need to re-group for their remaining 2 fixtures in this section against Claypotts and SS Peter and Paul respectively. Hopefully this reality check against a poor team will spur them back into good form.

Team:Brown, Cowie, Wilson, Humphreys, Riddell, Kidd, Ferrier, Smith, Mclaren, Gall, Sharp and Mikey Gall.
