Shamrock 0 AHSFP's 11
18 August 2009

Fp's travelled to Dundee to face old foes Shamrock in their first competitive game of the new season in their section of the Tay Valley Shield. Manager Smith handed no fewer than three players their FP's debuts. Defender John Cowie, Defender Dave Brown who deputised in goal for the match and Jamie Macintosh a cultured left back signed from local team Portcullis. Fp's also had new boys Darren Wilson, a full back recruited from Gayfields youth team and Scott Burness, a young terrier back from long term injury on the subs bench. Young James Farquarson was also named amongst the subs, as a trialist .

Straight from the off Fp's set about their business. With six players suspended and a few carrying injuries this was the starting elevens chance to cement their place in the team.

Wave after wave of attack saw Fp's take the game to their city rivals. Missed chances by Ferrier, Gall and Maclaren were only a sign of early season rustiness. It was SHARP who finally broke the deadlock when he pounced on a rebound from Macintosh's header.

One soon became two when Kidds pinpoint cross was powerfully headed home by GALL from close range.

A third followed when an exquisit through ball from Smith gave FERRIER the easy task of side footing past the advancing keeper.

The combination of Kidd and GALL made it four before half time when the latter proded home his providers cross.

Fp's confidence grew in the second half and continued the slaughtering of what was now deflated opposition. Smiths accurate corner was perfect for HUMPHREYS who's bullet header wasn't seen by the Shamrock keeper.

FERRIER got his second and Fp's sixth when he sidefooted home Galls flick on in the box.

Fps then brought on Wilson and Burness for Maclaren and Smith. Number seven was by far Fp's goal of the game. Macintosh's header was picked up by RIDDLE and he unleashed an unstoppable shot into the corner of the net from 25 yards.

FERRIER then completed his hat-trick. He collected an inch perfect through ball from the ever willing Cowie, as he picked his spot he could only look on in disbelief as his shot struck the post, luckily the ball came straight back to him and he scored the rebound.

As the demolishon continued Gall picked out SHARP unmarked on the edge of the box and he cooly slotted home from 16 yards.

Sharp was then replaced by Farquarson. His impact was immediate as bearing down on goal he unselfishly squared to RIDDLE who tapped into the empty net.

Shamrocks misery was complete when Macintosh's viscous inswinging corner was headed into his own net by a 'Rock defender.

With such a convincing win and all players playing their part the man of the match award was not an easy choice for the management team. After much discussion the award went to DALE RIDDLE who was rock solid throughout and weighed in with a couple of goals.

Squad:Brown, Cowie, Macintosh, Humphreys, Riddle, Kidd, Ferrier, Maclaren, Smith(c), Gall, Sharp, Wilson, Burness & Farquarson.
