Invergowrie 4 AHSFP's 5
14 August 2009

Fp's travelled to the city to play their 2nd and final pre-season friendly before the start of the new season. Against a formidable premier outfit and missing their regular keeper this would prove to be a great test.

Injured full back I.Riddle shouldered the responsibility of replacing usual keeper Saunderson who opted to support his country and his local public house.

Fp's started the game with great endevour taking the game to their hosts from the first whistle. But after squandered chances by Gall, Sharp and most notibly Ferrier it was the homesters who took the lead with their 1st attack. A Gowrie player found himself unmarked at a corner and bulleted his header past the helpless Riddle.

Fp's continued to press and were rewarded in fortunate circumstances. A well worked throw between Macintosh, Smith and Maclaren resulted in the latter switching the ball wide to D.RIDDLE who's attempted cross eluded the home keeper and flew into the far top corner.

With Fp's dominating it wasn't long before they took the lead. A pinpoint Smith corner was glanced into the net by last seasons top scorer MATTY GALL.

Unfortunately Fp's didn't learn from the opening goal and Gowrie equalised with a carbon copy goal from another corner kick.

To Fp's credit they continued to drive forward and regained the lead with an early contender for goal of the season. I.Riddle's goal kick was headed on by Smith and then flicked on by Gall. His flick was controlled by SHARP who then turned and volleyed into the top corner from fully 30 yards.

Gowrie were being overrun and Fp's added a 4th before half time. Fenwicks towering header put SHARP clean through on goal and he cooly clipped the ball over the Gowrie keeper for his second of the game.

Gowrie came out in the 2nd half with their pride dented. But for all their efforts they couldn't breach Fp's back 4 of Cowie, Macintosh, Fenwick and D.Riddle. On the hour Fp's replaced Kidd with Mikey Gall. His impact was immediate as Smith sent Sharp down the left wing, he beat his marker before squaring for MIKEY GALL who made no mistake from close range.

Fp's then brought on Craik, Brown, Talbert and Burness for Ferrier, Fenwick, Cowie and Maclaren. Although the passion was still there Fp's lost their shape and conceded 2 late goals.

But with Mikey Gall twice denied by Gowrie's keeper and Smiths free kick hitting the upright Fp's could've easily won by the margin their performance deserved.

Although this was a great team effort a special mention must go to Sharp who rolled back the years with a vintage performance.

Squad:I.Riddle, Cowie, Macintosh, Fenwick, D.Riddle, Ferrier, Kidd, Smith, Maclaren, Gall, Sharp, M.Gall, Talbert, Brown, Craik and Burness.
