VIArt – call for artists

Venture Initiatives Scotland is an Edinburgh-based charity which has just started a new social firm called VIArt. The organisation aims to tackle the problems young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder face today, giving them hands-on experience in creativity, business, teamwork and self-governance. They have secured gallery space in Edinburgh’s New Town, and will have studio space below housing 4 artists/ crafts people who will work with apprentices with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

VIArt is currently looking for artists who have a disability, who have experienced mental health problems or who have suffered from any kind of disadvantage in their life, to sell their artwork from their gallery. They are looking for high quality paintings, drawings, sculptures, textiles and any other type of artwork. The gallery is due to open in Feb/ March 2010. They are also looking for artists to rent their studio spaces, who will benefit from a competitive rental price, apprentice staff, business support and advice, shared office equipment and on-site peer support.
