Briton's Protection 2-5 Alty Hale 07 March 2010 Alty closed the gap on the mid table pack with an emphatic away win at Briton’s Protection. The game didn’t entirely go the whites way though, as having completely controlled the opening half an hour, an unexplainable loss of concentration meant Protection had a 2-1 half time lead. Paterson and Boland were both guilty of missing good chances in the first half, Boland tapping in from close range to put Alty 1-0 up. Paterson ran the opposition defence ragged all day and was brought down in the box, but blazed his penalty wide after persuading usual taker Boland to stand down. Protection scored with their only 2 shots of the half and as heads went down at half time, an injection of energy and spirit was needed for Alty to claim a well deserved victory in the 2nd half. Things started well, Paterson going through on goal and this time calmly finishing to square the game within 5 minutes before cheekily chipping the goalkeeper to make it 3-2. The real turning point came when a bad foul by Bannister gave away another penalty to the home side. He was lucky to stay on the pitch, but did so, and saw a great stop from Madeley to keep Alty in the lead. The balance of play changed dramatically, with Boland easily running through on goal and making it 4-2 with another cool finish, but Alty continued to waste chances to put the game to bed as Boland, Paterson, Laws, and even Bannister proving wasteful in front of goal. Clamp however rounded off the win with a fine individual effort in the closing minutes. Alty Hale: Madeley, Holman, Cafferty, Bannister, Smith, Clamp, Aston, Wood, Wain, Boland, Paterson. Subs: Laws (for Aston).
Mom: Paterson.
