You've probably found this page because you're concerned about your own drinking or that of somebody close to you. Maybe the situation isn't too serious yet, but you are here because alcohol is causing worry. Alcoholism is a progressive illness and so it is good to deal with it at its earliest stages. Perhaps the situation has become intolerable and you feel that nothing is going to rid you/them of this nightmare.  You will have many questions:

  Am I an alcoholic?
What are the signs of alcoholism?
Why am I an alcoholic while my friends, who drank just as much, aren't?
What are the consequences of continued drinking?
I want to stop, but how do I stay stopped when it’s everywhere I look?
I've upset too many people; is it worth stopping?
What affect is this having on my family and those who love me?

Decline may well be underway:

The alcoholic will undoubtedly have pushed family members to their absolute limits.

Marriage/relationships will have ended.

Friends will have turned their backs.

The alcoholic will have been able to hold down employment and therefore resulting in financial problems.

Some will have lost their homes or/and access to their children.

Legal problems are likely to be present and some will have been in and out of prison.

With all these negatives a person is very likely to drink even more to mask the hurt, self-loathing and heartache they feel.

Help is out there - you're not alone!
