Ministry’s New Initiative for Street Kids

The Children’s Development Division, CDD within the ministry has this year taken an important initiative to seriously address the problem of kids taking the streets to beg for food and money.
The division has opened a register book to record cases of kids roaming and being seen as rogues and vagabonds begging for money or looking for food on the streets and fast food bars of Honiara.
The Director of CDD, James Rizzu Evidence of this is a child seen begging in front of the Jedok Sports shop at Point Cruz in Honiara earlier this year. The kid was taken to MWYCFA’s main office for interviews. The Child was begging for money to fend for his parents and himself.
“Any officer who comes across such situation must take the same cause of actions so that we can make proper referrals” Mr Rizzu said.
