Our name

by Wessex Harpers - 22:04 on 01 July 2009

We spent much time deliberating on a name for our group, but finally settled on 'Wessex Harpers' - after checking that there is no other group under that name.

We chose Wessex because the Hampshire-Berkshire area where we are based formed part of the ancient kingdom of Wessex, which was centred on the modern counties of Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Dorset and Somerset.

And did you know that Alfred the Great, King of Wessex, played the harp?
