Welcome to Wakefield Dentokan Jujutsu

Jujutsu (also spelt jiu jitsu or ju jitsu) is a traditional Japanese martial art.

The founders of the Wakefield Dentokan Jujutsu club originally studied Hakko Ryu jujutsu. This is one of the most popular forms of jujutsu in Japan, but is relatively rare in the UK. However they are no longer associated with the hombu in Japan and the club is now part of the Sekai Dentokan Bugei Renmei (World School of Traditional Martial Arts Federation).

The aiki jujutsu we teach is based on the Hakko Ryu jujutsu that was originally studied, but the senior instructors have been influenced by the other martial arts they have learnt, particularly Tomiki Aikido. In addition the aiki jujutsu studied is aligned with the syllabus and grading system of the Dentokan organisation. It is a subtle form of martial art with a particular emphasis on wrist techniques. If you are looking for cage fighting you are at the wrong place, but if you want a traditional Japanese budo, this might be for you. You can see a vintage clip of the founder of Hakko Ryu performing tecniques here.

Our jujutsu is suitable for adults of all ages and does not require anything more than a normal level of physical fitness. If you would like to join our club and learn our style of aiki jujutsu please get in touch or just pop along one training night. We always welcome new faces.

We practice every Friday from about 7:15 to 9:15pm
