Welcome to Viewfield Garden
This is a garden project for vulnerable and disadvantaged adults in Skye & Lochalsh.
With the aims to advance citizenship and community development by, restoring and maintaining natural landscapes, access paths and community gardens which open to the general public and to provide a supportive work environment and training in horticulture.
The garden is now accessible using a path linking the village of Portree from Viewfield Road to the garden which makes a lovely walk through deciduous woodland.
You are welcome to walk around the garden; there are vegetable beds, fruit trees, flower beds and an ornamental garden with native plants.
There is a path above the garden leading to the forest; you can see a great variety of plants, birds… as well as some spectacular views.
There is one designated disabled car parking place at Skye Shrubs which is off the Viewfield House Hotel driveway. The section of the path from this car park is accessible for wheelchair users, and part of the second section going along by the burn is suitable for people who may have some mobility problems, but not for wheelchairs.
We are very grateful to Hugh MacDonald of Viewfield house for his support and having the vision to enable the development of this project, which allows access to this beautiful space for the whole community.
Thanks to the local businesses who have supported us - Jewsons, Jans Vans, MacDonald Brothers, Sconser Quarry, Skye Shrubs,
We are currently funded by Brown Forbes Memorial Trust, Big Lottery Awards for all, Communities Scotland Highland 2007, NHS Highland, Co-op community Dividend, Rotary Club Portree & District. S.N.H, 02.
Without their funding we would not have progressed so rapidly
