MY MUSIC PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy of teaching is never to teach technique as an end in itself, but mainly focus on the process of learning. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to know who my learners are, to understand students’ learning and adjusts my strategies in response to the pace and style of different students’ learning and understanding. As a teacher I view teaching as a partnership between me the teacher and the student. This partnership should enable me a better understanding and evaluation of the leaner thus making it possible to continuously evaluate and measure the appropriateness of my instructional methods, so that in the end the learner is able to achieve and use his/her musical skills and training in a wide variety of contexts relevant to the challenges of the global world.

Collaboration

Today’s education is not complete without collaborating across with other faculty to find common ground or connections or share instructional method. In my view, the learning process extends beyond my individual expertise and encounters, thus, I believe that teaching and learning are enhanced by diversity, innovation, continuous change and teamwork. The concepts of active learning and collaboration are central to my philosophy of education, serving as guiding principles.

Why Music Education

Although music education is a controversial issue in schools, and will usually be targeted when it comes to budget cuts, I personally believe that keeping music programs in schools is essential. Music connects children with the past, the present, and the future, exposing them to other cultures. Music has been associated with change, revolutions, and today music is an integral part of the education systems, available in some cases even in the absence of the specialised teacher.
