Catherine McLeman
Hi

Been doing some work on my family tree today, mostly via scotlandspeople, and then had a hunt for McLeman on Google - I was aware of the family in Mid-Calder but hadn't been able to link to them, but was very surprised to find your site with my grandfather on it!

The Donald McIntosh who married Catherine McLeman (b 1887) was my great-great grandfather, and I'm the fourth Donald in that line - my grandfather, father and I have/had McLeman as a middle name.

Would be really interested to receive a copy of your family tree.

Best Regards,

Donald McIntosh

Hi Jacob
Good to hear from you. The earliest official record the name McLeman was 1702 a marrage in Cromarty, The Black Isle. then the name appears mostly in Avoch, a few miles away.
To start your tree you need to work backwards. What do you no about your grandparents or great grandparents?

Hi Don

Good to hear from you. What you need to trace your family is to write down the name of yor fathers perents and grand perents etc..Then there is a site called www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and search in there. I doubt if the family came from Irland, but could have gone there at some time. Let me know what you have so far.I will try to help.
Kind regards

Hello John

I was interested to find your family site. My name is Ross McLeman and I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. My father was raised in Stornoway, but was born in Fraserburgh. Have you tried combining information with Andrew McLeman from Mid Calder? He has a pretty extensive family tree up on his website. I met him at the McLeman clan gathering in Inverness in ‘99. Jim McLeman in Canada has also done a lot of research.

Cheers
Ross

Hi Ross

Thanks for getting in touch. I have have found that McLemans all seem to come from the Black Isle. I will be going to Avoch on the 7th May for a week. I try to go up once a year.

All the best
