kind words from the league.
16 April 2009

this was sent to the club following the southend manor home game.

Jimmy,

On behalf of Margaret and myself, thank you very much,  to you, Jimmy,  your family and loyal helpers at making it such a smashing evening for us both last night. On our way home it was great to hear Margaret saying " I really enjoyed tonight" because that is what it is all about and I am afraid it can be so different at times but i've always found Oakside a more than pleasant experience. The 67 attendance was like a glorious reunion for me as most of the crowd were groundhoppers from my days as same and its awhile since I saw them all. For some of them, it was way over the 100th game of the season !

The souvenirs of your club will be added to the ever growing Museum of the ESL and again, we are grateful for your generosity... oh and the reason why we were all there - the game... was a cracker and just goes to show how you have to play right to the final whistle in our League to get success !

Please convey my thanks to Rob Myers as his little History of Barkingside programme was fascinating to read in bed last night . One of his stories relates to the Barkingside v Arsenal game on Boxing Day 1955 and particularly mentions Gordon Brasted at No 9 for the Arsenal. This is just to say though I am sure that Rob knows that this is the one and same,  late Gordon Brasted of Burnham Ramblers whom our Trophy is named after.

Thanks again

Rob & Margaret
