TAKELEY REPORT.

Barkingside 0 Takeley  2 at Oakside

Essex Senior League
Adam Dennehey Reporting
A brave effort by Barkingside ultimatley wasn't enough as they were defeated by second placed Takeley in a tough encounter at the Oakside. The weather was almost perfect for football and Tony Fenn with the abscence of Greg Thompson had his best team available. To beat Takeley, Side knew that they'd need to start the game well and match them.

Side almost went ahead inside the first 5 minutes when Chris Lewis had a snap shot saved inside the box after a good ball from Jordan Tolan.Takeley though hit back with Joe Galsworthy creating a chance of his own after he beat two men down the right only to see his shot saved by Matt Cope in goal.
Cope made a fantastic save moments later. A good move down the left this time caused trouble in the Side defence. A cross was met with a good header from Chris Grove only for Cope to make a great one-handed save. Not only that but the goalie was first to the rebound as well - fine goalkeeping!
Dom Harkins and Jamie Bly were combining well in midfield, but there was nothing they could have done to stop the visitors going into the lead. Galsworthy holding up the ball for Michael Kennedy whose shot took a slight deflection to wrong-foot Cope to find its way into the net. That goal was harsh on Side who derserved to go into half time on level terms.

The second half didn't start well for Side who lost their leading goalscorer Chris Lewis due to what looked to be a slight knock. Bradley Ross coming on in his place.
Side were unlucky not to get an equaliser when Warren Bennett had a header saved by Takeley's keeper Dan May. Moments later May had another save to make when Ross connected well with a Dom Harkins cross.
With time running out Leonard Remy was brought on to inject abit of pace in Side's attack but Takeley's defence was working well as a unit. In the dying stages Side just couldn't create a real clear cut chance. To make matters worse in the last minute Takeley scored a second when sub Josh Colson crisply fired home in the box.  It was a harsh defeat for Side who have played well of late. There is still much for them to look forward to with a League Cup Final to look for in the next month.
