Track

Track on the S&D is a real mixture.  The original narrow guage line was built with brass bullhead rail in nylon chairs and wooden sleepers. This was on 32 mm gauge.  The sleepers were soaked in a mix of creosote and old tractor oil.  They lasted about 15 years before replacement became necessary .

With the coming of the standard gauge many of the sleepers were replaced with longer ones allowing a third rail to be laid to acommodate the 45 mm gauge.     The yard at this time was still being used by narrow gauge trains so his led to the building of a number of dual gauge points.

These were still on wooden sleepers.  There are about 10 pieces of rail in an ordinary switch but 23 in a full dual gauge switch. The rail is of code 197 section but does not seem to cause trouble with most makes of wheel.
