| Toilet Twinning is a fun and effective way to help with a serious problem. Did you know that more than one third of the world's population do not have anywhere safe and hygienic to go to the loo? The international charity Tearfund helps disadvantaged communities learn how to build and look after their own latrines, breaking the cycle of sickness and disease. Toilet Twinning is like twinning towns, except that you twin your loo at home with one built by a family or school halfway around the world. Your donation helps Tearfund to help communities to help themselves, and in return you receive a personalised certificate to hang in your smallest room with a picture and coordinates. |

Why Skye?
Minginish Community Hall at Portnalong successfully twinned their loos in 2016, and Tearfund asked if we would like to carry on and help make Skye only the second "Toilet Twinned Island" - as the Isle of Man got there first. We are aiming to twin as many loos as we can by the spring of 2018.
Who is taking part?
Skye's community halls, schools, businesses, pubs, hotels, B&Bs and private individuals have been very generous in their support. We are glad to support anyone who would like to raise funds to twin their loo - individuals, groups or organisations. You can see some of Skye's twins on Tearfund's official site.
How much does it cost?
A single latrine costs £60, and a school or displacement camp block costs £240. Gift Aid can be used to increase the value of the donation to Tearfund. All donations go to Tearfund.
How can I join in?
- If you would like to twin your loo straight away, you can do it online as detailed on the Twin now page. The Skye code is SKYE-TTI. Please do let us know if you do, then we can keep track of the total!
- If you would like to fundraise, e.g. at a school, church or business, please contact us and we will be glad to help with resources.
- If you would like to get your certificate locally, we have some stock ones here. Just contact us and we will get one to you.
