Match Reports

Milton (h)

by Daren Coles - 10:30 on 29 January 2012

Saffron Walden Town 0
Milton Colts 1
Sun 29 Jan 2012

Milton Colts were welcomed to a cold and foggy Catons lane.  They must have arrived in confident mood following the match earlier this season where they beat Walden 6-0 and now sit in second place in the league.

It was no surprise that the first half was one way traffic as Walden courageously repelled attack after attack, however after 15 mins the Walden goal was breached when Milton’s winger put in a fine cross to the near post and the Milton striker shot past Harry for a well deserved lead.

With approx 5 mins before the halftime break, Pete made a tactical change bringing on both Harry Clark & Luca Riccio (both returning from injury).  Some might question such a change before the break but, in the style of Mourinho, the decisive decision set the mould for the second half performance to come.

Saffron Walden and Milton both put a great performance in the second half and the match was quite even with goal attempts from both teams.

With 10 mins remaining Luke Cooper’s great shot on goal proved to be Walden’s best chance in the match but was parried away by the keeper and the game ended 1-0.

The match was played in great spirits and both teams should take credit; Walden can be particularly pleased with the result although losing as they played a team near the top of the table and were not out classed; particular praise should go to the defence led by John Griffin for working so hard.
