Welcome to Reflections of the Storm

The Storm on 9/10th June 2021 left communities along the Tourist Road on Mount Dandenong facing the challenge of dealing with the loss of 25,000 gum trees and the very significant stuctural damage this caused, as well as the trauma of a night of unbelievable winds and rain.

The days after are recalled by many as a time of slow motion: waiting for help to come, for power to be restored and for the damage to be assessed. But these weeks also recalled as a time when for some people, communities came together to support and get through.

As the weeks became months, and then the anniversary of a year on, the deep distress of many dragged on.

The storm event happened when Victorian communities were still in lockdown, with a 4k limit on travel, so compounding the relief efforts of the services and exacibating the challenges.

Trees uprooted .....

                                                                 ........  and homes destroyed
