10/11/23 : Great turnout of players from Perth at the allegro tournament in Kirkcaldy last night; Martin, David, Ian C, Ian W and Ronnie.  A well run 5 round tournament with lots of free grub and free coffee and tea at the bar although there were lots of pints displayed around the chess tables.  Martin excelled and showed why he is our best player by winning the tournament with a score of 4.5 out of 5.  Star performance.

17/10/23

Well the new season (2023/2024)  is up and running again.

There are 2 internal competitions on the go.

A number of games have played in the Classical cross table.

The time control for this is : all moves in 1 hour 15 minutes with a 10 second increment from move 1.

There is also an allegro cross table.

The time control for this is : all moves in 20 minutes with a 10 second increment from move 1.

These games will be submitted for grading by David at the end of the season.

---------

We have had a few new faces coming along to the club over the past couple of weeks. This is great to see and hopefully they will join us on a regular basis.

We take this opportunity to welcome even more friends to our club. Either just turn up on the night, or make contact via the FEEDBACK page on this site.

--------

Both Perth teams have been involved with TAFCA league games.

Perth A (3) v (1) Castlehill C.

Perth B (2) v (2) Newport.

Our first round of the TAFCA knockout takes place on Monday the 23rd October in Perth v St. Andrews. Ian C. is the team captain. Good luck Ian.

--------

The Dundee Chess Congress took place from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th October. As always, this was a well organised and and run event ( by Ray Noble, Keith Rose and Jim Anderson) with around 120 players from all over Scotland attending. David and Ronnie attended both getting 2.5 points out of 5 in their respective sections.

--------------

Its almost SNCL time again. Rounds 1 and 2 take place on Sunday 22nd October in Dunfermline. The team is yet to be announced. James takes over as captain this year and everyone wishes him well. We would also like to thank David for his captaincy over the past number of seasons.

Although we were relegated from Division 2 last year, due to an increase in teams wishing to take part and some reorganisation by Chess Scotland, we find ourselves back in Division 2. Obviously games will be difficult as most of our opponents will be higher rated, but it will be a worthwhile venture for anyone lucky enough to get selected for the team.

-----------

As discussed at this years AGM, we are looking to set up a Facebook group for club info, photos etc. This is still in progress as we are getting bogged down in some technicalities. I will keep you posted (but don't be holding your breath).
