Dear Members,
Welcome to our 2008 handbook.
As you read through you will appreciate the variety of events available for members and guests to enjoy, from hardcore interclub racing through to gentle coastal cruising, from lectures and library study to lively social nights.

We hope this will inspire you to take an active part in as many club events as possible and we will try to make them both enjoyable and rewarding.

Members meet informally in the clubhouse on Friday evenings from 21.00hrs and all are welcome to join in the exchange of ideas and sterling efforts to put the sailing world to rights!

We hope to keep you up to date with posters and e-mails so be sure to send your e-mail address to help us keep you in touch.
We regularly update our website so keep dropping in there to find out the latest news.

I look forward to seeing you all on land or sea and hope you have a safe and enjoyable season with your friends at Nairn Sailing Club.

Cheers

Donald Harcus.

Ahoy Shipmates!
The sailing calendar looks good for the 2008 season. Increased cooperation amongst the Inner Moray Firth Yacht Clubs has lead to extra events around the Firth which promise to add focus to weekend cruises.
See the program elsewhere in this booklet.

We hope to have more weekend cruises this season, perhaps based around some planned event, see the programme, or perhaps just when the mood takes us. Keep in touch with your committee to join or initiate these mini cruises.

The racing season looks very promising. More shared events with other clubs will provide greater variety and competition allied to the aforementioned weekend cruises to the venues.
If you don’t want to race, please join the cruises. Perhaps cruise your own boat there and join another for the racing or just enjoy the cruise in company.
You can take part in our racing events by officiating. Many folk enjoy this side of racing but not too many in Nairn, so far.
If you’d like to learn about Race Officer duties, contact a committee member.
Both informal briefing and formal courses are available.

Windermere Yacht Club, following an enjoyable visit by Nairn sailors to their home waters last year, will be joining us on the Moray Firth again this year.
We look forward, as always to their camaraderie.

The dinghy section benefits from some keen individuals who are beavering away to ensure this part of our sport is supported in Nairn. If you fancy being your own skipper and crew, once again, contact a committee member.

We’re keen to involve more folk in sailing so spread the word. You don’t have to be a boat owner to enjoy regular sailing.
Most skippers would welcome an extra crew member or two. Let’s get more folk on the water. Make an effort to take part in club events and encourage any potential crew to come along too.

All in all it looks like a good season for Moray Firth sailors with lots of opportunities to share our sport.
If you’ve any suggestions or want more information please get in touch.

If you don’t receive my e-mail updates, e-mail me at
davidmvass@tiscali.co.uk  and I’ll add you to my address-list.

Here’s to a sunny season, favourable winds and good company.
