CPD which can be accredited at Masters levelSince 2005 educators have been able to work with Jack Whitehead to research to improve their practice through a living theory form of research. Many of their accounts are on his website and are inspiring.
Because of changes in circumstances I have had to find another university to enable educators to research to improve their practice and learning in this way and have their work accredited. This is now possible. Joan Walton, Director of the Center for Child and Family, Liverpool Hope University has CPD modules that enable people to undertake their professional development using a living theory approach and have their work accredited at Masters Level. This is being launched as, 'Living Values Improving Practice Cooperatively: An action research project'. Details of what it is about and how to register can be found on the link.
We are building up resources to support the researchers working with us on the project and to be able to successfully submit their research for accreditation whether with Liverpool Hope University or other institutions and at what level they want, for instance at Masters or Doctoral level, or to develop their research to a quality appropriate for a conference or a journal. A lot is already on www.actionresearch.net
A bit of an archiveI dont want to loose some of the bits I have found useful working with the previous groups so will store them here for the time being.
I want to build this section specifically to support those looking to develop inclusive and inclusional gifted and talented educational theory practice and provision and their living educational theory research.
There is plenty of material which contributes to further justification of the traditional approaches. There is also a quieter, developing body of knowledge being created which is contributing to the evolution of our new understandings which I want to make more readily accessible. Any good reads please let me know! If you can let me have a few notes, summary or review so much the better. I will put up any notes, summaries or reviews I have written; they are idiosyncratic and I come from my own perspective so I strongly advise you to go to the source and make your own decisions about them.
ReferencesSome of the references can be found here. This is the beginning of a reference list. I have included notes etc where I have made them. If you have anything that could be added please let me know. There is as yet little in the field.
Official stuffI am trying to find and get to grips some of the government strategies etc. and analyse them to find the most pertinent and influential aspect and take account in developing educational theory and practice. It is a never ending battle and as soon as I have one bit - along comes another not necessarily consistent with what is already there. Anyhow, for what it is worth some of what I have found I am adding here.
This multimedia narrative of an inclusive and inclusional understanding of talents and gifts is a must read!
How Do I Improve my practice as an Inclusion Officer Working in a Children's Service (Chris Jones - draft masters dissertation Jan 09)
Jack Whitehead offers specific advice and material that you will find useful to improving the quality of your educational research. If you want to do so through the lens of inclusionality extensive writings on inclusionality can be found on Alan Rayner's site and the Inclusional Research Forum
As we progress in supporting teachers working on the unit and extending our own theory and practice of inclusive gifted and talented educational theory and practice Jack and I will be writing emails to individuals, each other and to the groups. Some of those notes might be useful to others so we will add them as and when to this site.
The accounts already submitted for the Gifts, Talents and Education Masters Unit, University of Bath are a growing resource to draw on. I would also strongly recommend reading some of the living educational theory doctoral theses, particularly Barry Hymers, 'How do I understand and communicate my values and beliefs in my work as an educator in the field of giftedness?'
As this is specifically the focus of my own research you might find some of my writings stimulate your imagination or at least irritate you enough to want to write something yourself.
