Hello you lot and welcome to my feeble attempt at a 'blog'. This is the first time I've tried anything like this so bear with me. My old mate Stevie has inspired me to do it as he has been updating his friends on his and Lauraines' adventures in their new 'home in the sun'.
So where does one start? Well, about two years ago, Lesley and I decided to take an uncharacteristic risk and buy a place in the sun for all the usual reasons. After some research we plumped for Turkey (there's a pun there somewhere!), and bought an apartment in a place called Turgutreis on the Bodrum Peninsula, in the south west of the country. Greece is very close with the island of Kos about a 35 minute ferry journey away.
The view out across the Aegean from our terrace is fabulous, and is just stunning when the sun is going down and all the little Turkish and Greek islands appear in silhouette, as the days haze gradually disappears. That view was probably the main reason we bought where we did. Having said that, the apartment itself is really nice and roomy, around 100 sq mtrs, and is bright and airy (bloody need to be in that heat!). Have a look at the pics at the bottom of the page.
The last two years have been sort of a roller coaster ride because the company we bought the apartment from, although being well established and respected locally in another industry sector, were new to the property business and it soon began to show. We had lots of minor problems but they all mount up and we found that when we went out for a holiday, we spent our time chasing after the company to do what they should have done, and in fact told us they had done.
To cut a long story short, we terminated our contract with them in June, and now have some friends keeping an eye on the place for us.
Anyway, that's the very brief background to our venture into the unknown. We now hope to have stress free sojourns from here on, and we head down to Turkey shortly (on our wedding anniversary!), so hopefully I'm going to post news here every few days.
