Lorn Archaeological & History SocietyThe guestbook allows us to receive comments from visitors. By default it is moderated, which means that no-one's comments are published until they have been checked first. Old Oban history There is a new website for anyone interested in the history of Oban. This is a collaborative project, so PLEASE join in. oldoban.wikidot.com -you will need to copy this into your address bar looking forward to seeing this grow. Posted by LFHG on 27 October 2009 Lorn Family History Group The inaugural meeting of the Lorn Family History Group will take place on Sunday 27th September 2009. Anyone who would like to know more details of this meeting or of what we decide to arrange for the winter, and onwards, should please get in touch with LFHG on 01631 720223 or, preferably, email lornfamilyhistory@gmail.com. This group is very much aimed at genealogists living in the North Argyll area, wherever their ancestors come from or ended up. As one prospective member suggested "its a chance to get together with like minded people who won't glaze over when you start droning on". From the enquries so far, its evident that we will cover most of the country, if not many of the continents, from the start, which is wonderful. We also have a surprising depth of experience coming out of the local woodwork as well as welcoming newcomers to the hobby. We are looking forward to the creation of this new group, and welcoming new members in the months to come Posted by Jill Bowis on 21 September 2009 Welcome to the new LAHS website I hope you like what has been done so far. Please let the committee know what you would like to see on this site. Posted by Jill Bowis on 10 November 2007 The website is great, but it gives, so far as I can see, no contact addresses, whether email or postal, and no telephone contacts. How do we communicate? PS apologies that I am unable to attend the AGM Ian Tegner Posted by Ian Tegner on 30 September 2008 |

Isle of Lismore is of great importance to myself & family. My new wife & I were married on Lismore in May, 2011. My ancestors emigrated from Lismore in the 1820's (John McCorkindale and his wife Mary nee:McIntyre) to Guelph, Ontario Canada and built their stone farm house and called their new home farm 'Lorne'..It appears they came from an area called "Archanard, Isle Lismore". So any further information of that time & present relations in the area would be very helpful and interesting.
Kindest Regards,
Bob McCorkindale
