Smart - First Thoughts

by Roger - 11:52 on 10 July 2013

Later I shall have much more detailed entries about the Smart, but our first reaction is very positive. It is good to cook on and it heats our water well. After we first had it installed, on June 20th, the weather was cold enough here in the North of Scotland for us to welcome a bit of warmth fed into the central heating, and we fired up the Smart to cook our breakfast and then our evening meal. Recently the weather has been hotter and we have been putting it on to cook our evening meal and heat a day's water. It does this well.

The big test for the Smart will be in the winter, but I thought some people might be interested to read our first thoughts on it if only because it is relatively new in the UK and a fairly recent innovation even in Italy where it is manufactured.

If you are reading this and want to know technical details about the Smart, or see more pictures of it, then look at my links for information from Stovesonline, the UK distributor of it, or from the manufacturer Klover. You might also be interested in links to National Trust blogs about the Smart, because they have installed one in Wales.

Roger,
I am looking for a pellet boiler cooker and have been following the NT thread but you seem to be the first owner who is publishing about Smart.

1. Who did you use to install it? And what skills di they need?
2. Did you connect to an existing central heating system or start from scratch?
3. What sort of heating water system do you have installed?
4. What level of insulation do you have ?
5. hat sort of construction of building is it?

From what I can gather all these variables have a significant impact on the eventual out come of the heat. I think I am starting from the worst point. Trying to integrate two old houses into one with an oil boiler and fir based back boilers and a house with no insulation.

Any advice and feedback would be much appreciated.

Mark

Thanks for this, we are considering buying a Smart 120 for our renovation - also in the north Highlands.
We'd be really interested to hear about your experience with this since July. Any chance you can post an update?
