Welcome to my Website

Living on the coast of Fife I am continually inspired by the ever-changing light, big skies and seas, stunning scenery, and the seasons. No two days, or often even minutes, are quite the same and therefore the opportunities to paint are limitless.

I paint landscapes largely in acrylics, but also use oil. I have been painting for over 30 years though have gone for periods where I have had little time to paint. 2014 was awatershed year form when I was inspired by the late autumn light and sky whilst cycling by legendary the Kissing Trees by Kinghorn in Fife. This moment led to me picking up my paint brushes for the first time in many years and since then I have been steadily building a portfolio of work that has been admired by many including established artists.

Another inspirational moment came five years later when I looked out the seventh floor of an office block in Marischal Square, Aberdeen to be greeted by a cityscape of church spires, roofs tops and a large dome rising mysteriously out of a thick street mist, shrouded by a pale yellow sky and brooding dark clouds. A painting followed soon after and I subsequently built a small portfolio of other similar scenes of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Much of my work is of the Fife coast with its stunning views across to Edinburgh, Arthur’s Seat, the Pentlands and the various islands in the Forth, as well as the settlements along the Fife coast itself. My paintings will often emphasise and express early morning and evening light and sky. A number of my works also focus very much on detail particularly where buildings are involved.
