* Newsflash*

I'm sorry to report that the Festival won't be taking place in 2015. A huge amount of voluntary time and fundraised money has to be sourced to enable an event like this to take place and it's simply not going to be feasible this year. We would like to take this opportunity to extend a massive thank you to everyone who has been involved in running the previous events and all those who supported and attended. If you would like to see the Festival back in 2016 please get in touch as we're in need of new dedicated volunteers to lead the event organisation. It's great fun, good experience and a brilliant way to give something back to our community.

Islay Festival of the Sea

The Islay Festival of the Sea is a celebration of the unique sea-faring heritage of the beautiful Hebridean island of Islay. The 2013 event will be held on the first weekend of August, beginning on Friday and ending on Sunday.

The area is blessed with rugged unpoilt coastline interspersed with white sandy beaches and sheltered bays. There is an abundance of local wildlife around the coast and the close proximity to Northern Ireland, Kintyre and neighbouring islands of Jura and Colonsay make it a paradise for sailors, especially with the tantalising lure of 8 famous single malt distilleries dotted around the coast.

The geography and location of Islay have also helped to develop a truly unique and fascinating culture over many years. The Festival aims to showcase the maritime heritage of the region, the fabulous seafood, wealth of local talent, abundant wildlife and historical links with Ireland which have endured since the time of St Columba. Each year the committee endeavour to build on the success of the year before and aim to deliver an eclectic programme with something to suit everyone. More information on the 2013 programme will be available on the website and facebook page (www.facebook.com/IslayFestivaloftheSea) in the near future.
