30 July 2017Inverness Shinty Club Annual 6 a Sides Full Report & Results
Busy day at the Bught for the annual sixes day.
Under fourteen competition had 9 teams taking part; Inverness Boys, Inverness Girls, Beauly A, Beauly B, Newtonmore, Ballachulish, Kinlochshiel, Lochaber and Glen Urquhart.
Following the group stages Kinlochshiel, Beauly, Ballachulish and Lochaber won through to the semis with Lochaber defeating Kinlochshiel and Ballachulish beating Beauly.
In a close and exciting final Lochaber ran out winners with Max Campbell being awarded player of the tournament. Thanks to Arran McMaster for presenting the trophies.
The Ladies competition had 11 teams; Inverness, Lochaber A, Lochaber B, Glasgow Mid Argyll, Skye A, Skye B, Badenoch & Strathspey A, Badenoch and Strathspey B, Strathglass, Strathspey and Glen Urquhart.
After the group stage Badenoch and Strathspey defeated Lochaber and Skye beat Strathspey to reach the final.
In another close and exciting final Skye won 1 - 0 over Badenoch and Strathspey with player of the tournament Lorna MacRae scoring the goal. Thanks to Peter Gow for presenting the trophies.
The seniors was a disappointing turn out of 7 teams with Inverness, Caberfeidh, Inverness-Shire, English Shinty Association, Cornwall, Kyleakin and Strathspey taking part.
After a round robin competition the top four teams progressing to the Jubilee Shield competition was Inverness, Inverness-Shire, Kyleakin and Caberfeidh with Inverness defeating Inverness-Shire and Caberfeidh defeating Kyleakin in the semi finals.
In the final Caberfeidh came from behind to win 4-2 against Inverness. Caberfeidh's Bain Morrison was awarded player of the tournament. Thanks to Jeya Calder for presenting the trophies.
In the Rosedean Shield Strathspey defeated English Shinty Association and Cornwall to take the title.
The day was a a great success because of the many helpers;
Firstly our referees; John Matheson Brian MacKay Al Hunter and Drew McNeil.
Secondly our group of helpers running the refreshment stall lead by our fantastic Jeya Calder and Lynn Drew McNeil - thanks to all the volunteers.
Thirdly to Mike at the Bught for all his help and assistance.
Fourthly to Kenneth Loades for phoning round all the teams and referees and getting them here on the day.
Lastly but by no means least to our sponsors; Eencore une Fois bar Inverness, The Gellions Bar and Highland Industrial Supplies for their support in various ways for competition which is great appreciated.
A great day for the all round which only happens through the help of volunteers and the support of our sponsors, other clubs and internal club support.
