Junior Youth Study The Baha'i Fund
05 March 2007
The Baha'i junior youth got together yesterday to study the Baha'i fund. They each read letters on different aspects of the Baha'i fund written by the Guardian Shoghi Effendi, giving advice to the Baha'is in the early days of the development of the administrative side of the Baha'i Faith. From these they learnt the principles of the how donations to the Baha'i fund were used, who could give to the Baha'i fund and how the fund is administered. To help them use these principles they had to pretend that they were members of a Spiritual Assembly and make decisions on fictitious scenarios. They also learnt that the Baha'i Faith and its institutions are a gift which the Baha'is offer to the world. That Baha'is alone can contribute to the Baha'i Fund. That donations should be given freely and when given in the spirit of sacrifice is beneficial to the soul. Giving should not cause a Baha'i to go into debt and should be given without pressure or co-ertion. So an institution or another Baha'i cannot ask or demand that a Baha'i give to the Baha'i fund. Money is given preferably directly to the Treasurer or to a Fund Box. They learnt that care must be taken not to be extravagant, using the funds to the most benefit of the development of the faith. Contributions from all the Baha'is (all participating) in a community, no mattter how small in amount, is more meritorious than a large donation from one person. They learnt that it is important that the funds are protected in every way possible from dishonesty. Finally they learnt about the different funds from the local to the national and international funds which all need to be supported by the Baha'i community.
