A Day of Reflection for the Baha’is of the Highlands and Skye
23 February 2010

A Day of Reflection for the Baha’is of the Highlands and Skye

On a beautiful sunny, but cold, day in Inverness, Baha’is from the Highlands and Skye met for the three-monthly day of prayers, reflection, lunch and creativity. The day, on this occasion, was held in Inverness and was organised by the youth of the area.

The young people had recently returned from a weekend in Coventrywhere they were amongst 346 who attended a UK-wide youth conference at the University of Warwick. The day in Inverness started with one of them reading the inspiring message sent by the Universal House of Justice to the youth at that conference. There then followed a lively time of chatter in our small groups as we reflected on various aspects of living a “coherent life”. As coherent means consistent, we were mainly concentrating on how we, individually and collectively, could so consistently live our lives that we can help enhance our society, looking beyond the problems and trials of everyday contemporary living, to a brighter goal.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch provided for us by the host community, the Baha’is of Inverness, after which we had a short session directed by one of the members from Skye. She read some of the Hidden Words and we were encouraged to write or draw anything that came to mind. One member was moved to write a letter to God and was happy to have it shared here:

O God, when I am out in my garden, I am wholly in your company, whether through the songs of the birds; whether through the infinitesimal size of an insect; whether through the realisation that the small hard brown seed, that I planted months ago, has grown into a climbing plant, the flowers of which have a perfume sweeter than any other and when the flower dies, in its place will be a pod of more seeds to plant and continue to multiply the process.
This is like finding a soul and helping to plant in their heart the love of Baha’u’llah and who, growing into a devoted servant in turn, plants more hearts with divine seeds to continue to multiply the process.
I think of all the sacrificing souls of years gone by, whose hearts were exhausted in their teaching work, when everything seemed to progress so slowly but now, in the future, the multiplication theory is being borne out all over the world.
I can’t help being drawn back to-day by the mention of the town of my own childhood and youth and the wonderful lone lady who regularly hired a room above the fish shop in the main street for a fireside, which she advertised, but who sat for months alone praying. She taught my family the faith. Thank you God!
That town, I learnt to-day, where she sat for so long, alone, is now designated as one of the World Junior Youth Learning Sites. The power of prayer!
Ya Baha’ul-Abha!

The day finished with the reading and chanting of the Long Healing Prayer, by one of the youth, for everyone who is afflicted with pain and difficulties.

The next reflection day is on May 16th 11.00-2.00 in Skye. For details contact the Skye Baha’is nearer the time.
