In 1865 Foxlease found another owner in Mr. W. G. Stevenson, who lived there longer than any of the rest. At the time of the sale, the Wilverley Estate was separated from that of Foxlease and consequently the acreage of the grounds was considerably reduced. The whole of the nineteenth century seems to have passed by the house like a dream. Except for the bay windows no change was made. No additions or alterations can be traced and for another period of thirty-five years no record has been kept.
In 1900 Mr. Stevenson sold Foxlease to Major Barker-Hahlo, who in 1912, sold it again to Mrs. Saunderson,(nee Archbold) the daughter of an American, Mr John D Archbold the "Oil King". Armar and Anne Saunderson immediately set about making the house habitable again, for no builders had been near for over seventy years. The greenhouse on the South wall was pulled
