Welcome to Guard Dogs For All

My interest, or in fact a need, to acquire a family protection dog first started when I moved out of the city in to my dream home in the country. I bought a plot of land and over a couple of years had my dream home built. The property included quite a large open space to the rear. What I hadn't bargained for was the unwelcomed antention of some local ne'er-do-wells who were intent of visting me and my new home either after dark or when we were away. This started to take the shine off of the happiness we felt as a family in a now new home. Something had to be done or we would have no choice but to sell up and move away.

I intend to pass on my experience of this journey to protection within the pages of this site. So you will need to return to see the regular updates that I will be providing.

The first step was to try and get some advice about which breeds of dog to go for. My initial assumption was to look at the usual suspects, German Shepherd, Rottweiller etc. But I didn't really know where to start. Do you buy a basic puppy and have it trained? Do you buy an adult dog that has already been given the skills required to guard? So many questions!

Luckily a good friend of mine had an acquaintance that lived in Italy that through family and historical reasons had already been through a similar process. My freind recommended that I made contact with the Italian gentlemen with a view to getting the advice I needed. With his blessing, I will pass on my personal experience, worts and all!

The gentleman in question has been breading a specific type of dog that through it's blood lines has been groomed to be the perfect family protection or property guard dog. The animals are literally born to guard. In fact he even produced a fantastic book of the same name which explains everything you need to know about his breed. Parts of the book are freely available to view on his website http://www.centralasianshepherd.co.uk I strongly recommend you go and have a look. But please come ack for the next part of my story.
