Glenorchy draw Lovat in Camanachd Cup 2nd Round
10 May 2011

Fort William Captain Niall MacPhee lifting the trophy in 2010

Glenorchy will take on fellow Premier League side Lovat for a place in the Camanachd Cup Quarter Final, after the two were paired together in yesterdays draw.

The draw took place in Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall and means the two sides will duel at the Mart Park, Dalmally, on the 4th of June in shinty's most prestigious cup competition.

Having already been defeated 6-0 by the North side in the Premier League this season, Glenorchy will be looking for revenge and hoping that home advantage and the return of several first team players will help them progress.

Captain Kieran McKay gave his reaction an interview earlier this evening :

"Any draw against a Premier League side is going to be tough, and Lovat are a young, fit and skillful team who have posed us problems in the past. They are also a team that never give up as they showed when the came back from 3-0 down to beat us 4-3 a couple of years ago in the Cup.

However, they are one of the Premier teams we should be looking to win against this season, and I feel we are a stronger unit now than the team that lost 6-0 earlier in the season due to alot of players coming back.

For me, the key is to score early and get our confidence back, which has taken a battering this season, and if we do that I feel we have a great chance of victory. At full strength I genuinely believe this Glenorchy side could cause an upset against anyone."

Manager Alan MacKechnie echoed his Captains sentiments

"I think if you look at the way the draw panned out, it is one of the best we could have hoped for. I think we have a great chance of progressing if the lads are focused and play to thier potential"

The Club would welcome as many supporters as possible to cheer the team on, both in this tie and the remaining home games this season.
