Gairloch Boat Club Annual Challenge Regatta.

Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September 2014.

Our Annual Regatta was held last weekend in Gairloch Bay.

A total of three Sailing Clubs took part, Gairloch, Loch Morlich and Loch Carron.

Generally, the weather was relatively kind, with some gusts resulting in some rescues having to be made. Even then, those rescued took part in further races. There were a total of 17 dinghies on the water, across a wide range of types of dinghies. We were especially pleased to see so many of our youngsters taking part for the first time, some of whom had recently completed a week’s course held in Gairloch.

Saturday evening we all enjoyed a fabulous Buffet at the Myrtle Bank Hotel. Thanks to Sean and all his staff.

No event can succeed without the help of lots of people. Thanks to everyone involved in the organising of the weekend, Catering, Coastguard and Harbour Master and all the rescue boats which were provided.

Especially all the support from parents and youngsters and the other Clubs.

Overall Series winners were:-

Fast Handicap Class:            Jenny Baker, Loch Carron, in a Laser Radial.

Round the Islands Race:      Ewan McLellan with Lara and Eriskay, Gairloch Boat Club in a Feva.

Slow Handicap Class:           Iain Nelson, Gairloch Boat Club, in a Topper.

Challenge Trophy:               Loch Carron.

Friendship Quaich:              Loch Morlich.
