I know very well that you nothing for free in this world, so I was extremely sceptical about referral schemes, until I tried them. You are quite right, nobody is "giving away" anything.  In effect, if you join a scheme like this, you are being rewarded by companies for bringing in customers - they are paying you instead of paying for advertising. These are reputable companies such as the RAC, LoveFilm and the post Office.
