Many families in Victoria, and of course other places around the world, have an incredible resource that many never even think about or make use of! 

What is this resource? It's the heritage languages of the family! 

The children in many families speak one language at home in Victoria and English at school. They grow up to be bilingual and in some cases can even gain an additional qualification in the "foreign" language. 

Some families use more than one language at home, when Mum and Dad speak different languages, and their children learn to speak these.

There are resources to help these families to support language learning available in some communities and in some areas of Victoria.

Family Languages Victoria aims:

to find ways to best support these multi language families and also families where there are other language links. 

to find and share good ideas that help children pick up another language.
