Tell your community council that the Major should stay in his home. The portrait was give to the people of Kiltearn by his wife and has hung in the village hall ever since. It has recently gone through a major refurbishment.  The Major did a lot for Evanton if it has not been for him we would not have our village hall as he spotted that Evanton did not have a meeting place.  So he said to the people of Evanton I will give you 50% off the cost to build a hall. The village raised the money and the hall was built. The Major had a party in the hall for the village to celebrate the halls completion and opening as well as celebrate Victoria Diamond Jubilee, where the hall has got its name from. The Major played a big part in the village and was on the hall board. The portrait of the Major is as much part of the hall as the hall is to the village and must be protected for future generation.
