Who are we?
We are Enigma Young enterprise and we our a school based company from the school Fortrose Academy on the Black Isle in Scotland. We formed in the summer of 2006, all on a mission to use our skills and develop them within a mock business world called Young Enterprise Scotland, competing against other schools within the Highlands. We started off with 17 of pupils in a hierarchial structure of departments organised by function. However, as time progressed, the less commited pupils left school or resigned from the company, in order to leave the 10 core hard workers that we now know as Enigma.
What do we do?
We are constantly working under the umbrella of our mission statement: SAFE-safe and fun entertainment. In the early days of Enigma, we brainstormed about the problems within our society and discussed ways in which we could solve them. We realise as teenage ourselves, that one of the main problems and sources of other problems within the Black Isle was underage drinking, which was causing further problems such as violence and vandalism. We decided that we were going to try teach the Youth Generation that they can have a good time without drinking. And so we came up with the idea of providing diverse events for the teenage population. We hoped that not only would this provide youths with a night without alcohol, but will teach them that they can go on to have fun themselves without using artifical stimulants.
We have so far organised three events:
* 007 Bond Night- A night of luxury! We had a mock casino, mocktails and canapes, dancing, a fireworks display, a mystery bond star, quizzes, fancy cars, prizes for best dressed bond and bond girl. The night was a huge success and after post market research it was discovered that only 2% of the 120 pupils had attended had touched alcohol before the event, and not to the extent to which they were drunk. Pupils were also extremely impressed by the evening and said they were dying for us to organise more events in the future! We charged £10 for a ticket as the night was very expensive and took a huge amount of organisation and effort from EVERY team member.
*Health Promotions Evening- This involved educating teenagers on how important it is to have a healthy body and mind, and teaching them various ways in which they can do this in a fun manner.
*Highland Trivia Quiz Night- Because it was the Highland Year of Culture-Enigma decided to incorporate this by holding a Highland Trivia Quiz Night. There were 6 rounds, including one on Scottish culture. This meant pupils and teachers had to gather themselves into teams of 6 in order to compete for some fantastic prizes including paintballing and watersports instruction! The night was a huge success and enjoyed by all!
Don't you sell any products?
Although Enigma's main aim is to provide consumers with events, we as a group thought it was really important to have a presence at the Christmas Trade Fair on the 9th of December. Here we sold Drink Detectives to tie in with our SAFE initative. These were sourced from the internet and could not be found anywhere in retail outlets. These unique and innovative products can detect whether your drink has been spiked with any artifical stimulants, and thus means that you will always be safe when you take a sip of your drink!they were extremely popular and completely sold out. We also sold "tricky three" marble boards which we handcrafted ourselves from pine wood presented in a beautiful bag. These games also under our SAFE initative also are a good mind stimulant.
We also sold a valentines magazine to our school for 75p each in order to provide our school with some lurrrrrve!!
