A big thank you to the
Traffic Police for their Newbury Avenue/Bilton Way Road Operation July 2008
Over the course of about 2/3 weeks Sgt Wood and his team carried out daily regular traffic patrols at morning & afternoon school times stopping a vast amount of drivers for various offences like speeding, driving without a license, driving through the bus lane, un-roadworthy cars and using a mobile phone. Many tickets were given out and cars impounded for crushing.
Dozens of parents of children who walk to school were extremely pleased to see them and appreciated all their efforts, and especially commented that they felt the drivers were slowing down as a result of their presence.
It wasn’t just the parents that commented on their patrols but also many local residents who regularly endure speeding cars along Newbury Avenue & Bilton Way on a regular basis.
Special thanks should go to the Officer that patrolled Newbury Avenue where the children cross as he was very effective at getting the message across to the drivers of the risks to school children as a result of driving too fast and he handed out a number of tickets. He is welcome back anytime.
A big thank you also comes from the ‘lollipop lady’ in Newbury Avenue who has seen a big difference in driver’s attitudes because of the presence of the traffic patrols.
And on a final note the parents and residents wish to thank all the officers for patrolling and look forward to welcoming them back later on in the year if they are available.
Thank You
