Jimmy's 10k Update

Online entries extended until Wednesday 10th March. https://db.niathletics.org/clubs/shopEventDetails.htm?fixtureId=18

Entries on the day will be at an increased price of  £12. There will be entries on the day.

Jimmy's Ten, one of the best 10K races in Ireland and sporting centre piece of the St Patrick's Festival takes to the roads around Downpatrick on Sunday 14th which is also Mother's Day this year, with a 12.00 noon start. The race is the first in a Series of 5 sponsored by SPAR this year throughout Northern Ireland and this should ensure widespread participation. And thanks to the continuing generosity of  local Primary Sponsor M.B McGrady & Co. Chartered Accountants, the event will this year donate its proceeds to the Shimna Valley Holiday House in Newcastle which is run by the NI Cancer Fund for Children to provide holiday respite care for sick children.

East Down officials promise that it will be bigger and better than ever with something to offer everyone, be they walkers, novices or more hardened runners. The race provides great prize money with £200 on offer to both men and women winners and the carrot of an extra £50 for a new race record, currently 30.20 for men and 34.17 for women and £100 and £50 respectively for 2nd and 3rd placed athletes.  But the prizes don't stop there.  East Down have always prided themselves in spreading the honours as widely as possible and prizemoney or trophies will be awarded to all first and second placed runners in all categories from Over/35 to Over/70 and of course every entrant will receive a free T-shirt.

MOTHER'S DAY SPECIALS

With this year's race falling on Mother's Day every mother participating will receive a special gift, courtesy of Flowers By Tracey.  But there's even more – every finisher will not only be entered in the draw for a £700 holiday voucher but an additional special Mother's Day holiday voucher, to the value of £150, courtesy of Downe Travel Services Ltd, pictured, who recently moved to new premises in the county town, will also be presented to some lucky person  - the only proviso being that the prize winners must be present at the draw, made at the prizegiving ceremony in Down Leisure Centre after the race.

RELAY AND WALK

As well as the 10K race itself the popular Relay Race for Teams of 2, will be an option for those who cannot yet face the overall 6.2 mile distance, particularly the younger and novice runners - and of course a special welcome is extended to Walkers who turned out in great numbers last year. Please note that walkers will be expected to leave no later than 11.00am to be back in time for the presentations.
